Texas Prompt Payment of Claims Act
Penalty Interest Calculator
Walks through the facts of your claim and calculates statutory simple interest through today.
Step 1 · Case Information (optional)
Step 2 · Claim Basics
The date reported is when the insured first told the carrier about the claim (first notice / proof of loss). No interest accrues before this date. The carrier is entitled to a reasonable time (60 days under TPPCA) to investigate before interest begins.
Enter the approximate actual cash value (ACV) of the loss — the number the carrier would owe if it hadn't taken deductions for depreciation, the deductible, etc. If the carrier only agreed to part of that number, you'll account for what they actually paid in the next steps.
Step 3 · Has the Carrier Paid You Anything?
Step 4 · Denial
Step 4 · Payments Received
Enter every payment the carrier has made, with its date. Each payment reduces the outstanding balance — and the interest owed — from that date forward.
Step 5 · Type of Claim
This determines the applicable statutory interest rate.
